Ask questions and take notes!

As a first time home buyer, what is the best thing you can do besides doing your research? Ask many questions and take notes. Many first time homebuyers are left in the dark on several things.  Oftentimes, the information they have is from word of mouth. Many people are so excited to be buying their first home that they will do just about anything to move into their new purchase. It’s important to understand and ask questions,  before you sign on the dotted line! 

It’s likely many people in your life have purchased homes, and you will gain valuable information no matter whom you ask about the process. Your parents, co-workers, or even friends who have purchased a home can help you decide what you want, what you don’t want, and give you an idea what red flags to look for during the buying process. 

Ensure you understand

Don’t get too eager; even though it can be hard to control. The prospect of owning your own home is exhilarating. Don’t let that stop you from caring about the legality of it. Homes are foreclosed usually because people don’t take the time to understand just what they are getting into. It is not like breaking a lease from an apartment complex.  The quicker you gain a general understanding of buying your first home, the better off you will be.

Never be afraid that you are being too pushy or ignorant with your questions. If you want an answer or are unsure of anything always ask first, no matter what the question is. If this is your first time buying a house, remember it is very likely the largest purchase you have made up to this point.  Make sure your questions are answered!  With the help of an experienced REALTOR® and other industry professionals, you will feel comfortable and well informed about your home purchase.
